OPENINGS for 2008


The Barn Theatre season:

  • generally runs from May 14 through September 14
  • consists of 3 or 4 major musicals and 2 or 3 plays
  • makes use of the latest releases from New York

The summer of 2008 will be the Barn Theatre's 63rd season.

Staff Positions

COSTUME DESIGNER - Design, build, and supervise crews. Must have budgeting experience. Experienced shop supervisor/costume manager on staff. Excellent facilities, extensive stock. Salary competitive. ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - Broad technical skills required. Must be strong in construction and rigging. Painting and welding skills and some knowledge of lights and sound helpful. Proscenium stage. Full shop. Salary competitive. Send letter, resume, references and availability dates to address below.

SCENIC DESIGNER / PAINTER - Design main stage productions. Must be able to work within budget, intense timeframe, work with and supervise intern crew. Paint majority of set. Must be versed in all types of scenic techniques. Experience required. Salary competitive. LIGHTING DESIGNER - Design lights, maintain electronic board and instruments. Knowledge of sound and music a plus. Salary competitive. Send letter, resume, references and availability dates to address below.

MUSIC DIRECTOR - Must be strong pianist, able to conduct from piano, skilled with electronic instruments, able to coach singers, very organized. Work efficiently and quickly. Salary competitive. Send letter, resume, photograph (snapshot okay), references and availability dates to address below.

SOUND OPERATOR/DESIGNER - Responsibilities include: designing sound, maintaining equipment, training assistants, and running most shows, strikes and load-ins. PROP ASSISTANT - Assist Resident Manager with all aspects of build/pull including sewing, carpentry, painting, and upholstery, and be willing to expand knowledge. Design possibilities. Candidate must be able to manage time well and work effectively with apprentices and staff in a fast-paced environment. Salary competitive. EQUITY STAGE MANAGER - CORST Z.  - Experienced Stage Manager needed. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational skills. Car helpful. Please send letter, resume and references to address below.

PUBLICIST - Responsible for all publicity and advertising for 7 show summer season. Write press releases, act as liaison for local and regional press contacts and prepare all advertising. Organizational and personnel management skills essential. Must have previous experience in Publicity/Public Relations. Job from first week of May to September 14th approx. Salary negotiable. Apprentice Positions - The 2008 apprentice hiring process is complete.
Inquire starting in January 2009 for info about apprenticing during our 64th Season!

The Barn Theatre of Augusta, Michigan -- one of the nation's top resident Equity summer stock companies -- has a limited number of apprentice openings for outstanding theatre students who plan careers in professional theatre.

  • Act, sing and dance in main stage productions with the Equity Company. Earn credits toward Equity membership as an E.M.C. Leading roles possible.

  • Apprenticeships are also open for those who wish to specialize in management, music direction, scenic design, lighting/sound, costumes, properties or stage management.

  • Weekly salary.

  • Those accepted for the 2008 season will be an integral part of the professional resident company, gaining experience in all departments of theatre operation and producing shows of high artistic quality within a framework of commercial realism.

  • The schedule is equally divided between plays and major musicals, including the latest Broadway and off-Broadway releases. There is also nightly after-the-show entertainment in The Rehearsal Shed Lounge, a popular showcase for apprentice talent.
