Magical fun for the whole family!

(Augusta, MI) Disney’s GEPPETTO AND SON, the classic Pinocchio story, comes to life on the Barn Theatre stage July 24!  The wooden puppet dreams of becoming a real boy and Geppetto longs to have a child, though he has a lot to learn about being a father.  Feeling unwanted, Pinocchio runs away.  Geppetto encounters many dangerous and hilarious adventures in his journey to find and rescue the lad, and both learn lessons about truth as they struggle to find out what it means to be a family.  This touching story presents the timeless, beautiful songs from the original animated Disney classic, such as “When You Wish Upon A Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings”, as well as the exciting new tunes “Bravo Stromboli”, “Since I Gave My Heart Away”, and the show stopping “ Pleasure Island. This light-hearted fairytale is magical fun for the whole family!

Roy Brown Courtney Reed Ryan Stutz

Roy Brown stars as the toymaker Geppetto, and joining him as the lovable, mischievous Pinocchio is third year Barn apprentice Ryan Stutz.  Second year apprentice Courtney Reed enchants as the captivating Blue Fairy and Eric Petersen is the scheming fiend Stromboli.  Additional memorable characters include the eccentric inventor Professor Buonragazzo, portrayed by Scott Burkell, the rascally Ringleader ruling Pleasure Island, portrayed by Eric Parker, and the comical Mrs. Giovanni, portrayed by Lisa Marie Morabito.

Based on “The Wonderful World of Disney" telemusical of 2000, the musical has undergone several revisions prior to reaching the stage.  The collaboration between David Stern, who wrote the book for the musical, and Stephen Schwartz, who penned the music, is one of several of Schwartz’s Disney ventures including the film scores for Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and songs for The Prince of Egypt. He has also composed countless wildly successful Broadway musicals including Godspell, Pippin and Wicked. The stage adaptation of “Geppetto and Son” was previously presented by the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri in June of 2006, but has since been revised, and this production marks its professional unveiling.
