Come and see what all the hootin’ and hollerin’ is about!

Eric Parker and Emily May Smith  (Augusta, MI) August 7th SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS explodes onto the Barn Theatre stage. This rowdy, rip-roarin’ adaptation of the MGM movie musical will play until August 17. Based loosely on “The Sobbin’ Women” by Vincent Benet, this audience favorite will star Eric Parker as eldest brother Adam Pontipee and Emily May Smith as Milly.

The cast also features Barn regular, Eric Petersen as well as apprentices Jeff Baker, Jamey Grisham, Nick Horton, Jake Stackhouse, and Kevin White as the brothers; Lisa Marie Morabito and apprentices Julia Paige Gordon, Emmi Hilger, Megan MacPhee, Courtney Reed, and Katherine Weatherford are also featured as the comely lasses. Our story begins as Milly choosesAA to marry Adam after knowing him only a few hours. She doesn’t realize however, she would have six rowdy brothers-in-law as roommates in the wilds of 1850’s Oregon. It doesn’t take long for her to whip this rough and tumble group of boys into shape, and soon all the brothers can think about is finding wives of their own. Filled with daredevil dancing and featuring a magnificent score including “Wonderful, Wonderful Day,” “Bless Your Beautiful Hide” and “Goin’ Courtin’”, this lighthearted Wild West explosion will delight the whole family!

Long after the highly successful movie of 1954, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS was developed for the stage and enjoyed a critically and commercially successful national tour in 1979. In 1982, the Broadway production, starring Debby Boone, David-James Carroll had a short run of only 5 performances. Its sole Tony Award nomination was for Best Original Score. In 1985 the West End production proved to be more successful and a London cast recording was released. In 2005, a major revival was staged at the prestigious Goodspeed Opera House and the production earned rave reviews from Variety and the New York Times. There was also a  television series based very loosely on the film ran on CBS from September 19, 1982 to July 2, 1983.

SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS is directed and choreographed by Larry Nye.  Dusty Reeds is the Scenic Designer, and Kate Irvine Mills is the Costume Designer.  Garrylee McCormick is the Hair/Wig Designer. Properties are designed by James B. Knox and Lights are designed by Adam Levine. Tim Crews is the Sound Designer. Technical Direction is by Fred Gillette.

Performances for SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS will run through August 19th and are Tuesday through Friday at 8:30 PM, Saturday at 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and Sunday at 5:00 PM. Enjoy refreshments in the Rehearsal Shed Lounge with friends before the show, during intermission and after the show.
